We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer at our office in Skipton.  The role holder will take the lead in preparing structural calculations and drawings for building superstructures, including supervision and mentoring of Structural and Graduate Engineers. 

Responsibilities : 

  • Adherence to the Integrated Management System 
  • Undertaking concept designs and planning at concept stage on a wide variety of buildings 
  • The production of structural engineering calculations for building superstructures including light gauge steel frames, hot rolled transfer structures, composite floor slabs etc. 
  • Delivering excellent project work within agreed deadlines and budget including establishing client briefs, appropriate fees, and commercial management through to completion  
  • Interact and cultivate relations with clients and other project members
  • Monitoring site works to establish that it is being carried out in accordance with specifications and method statements 
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation changes and current industry guidance to ensure the objectives of the company and client are achieved 
  • Representing Sigmat at meetings with client and suppliers 
  • Assisting and mentoring of Senior Engineers and Graduate Engineers 
  • Undertaking site visits as and when required 
  • Lead, advise and direct junior staff in producing designs, carrying out research and providing reports for the required structural works on our engineering projects 
  • Checking of designs and drawings and other works undertaken by the team, providing feedback and coaching where necessary 
  • Any other task commensurate with this post 

What we are looking for :

  • Experience as a lead structural engineer on projects 
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of currents codes of practice
  • Broad range of engineering skills 
  • Familiarity with BIM technology 
  • Comfortable undertaking calculations by hand and using spreadsheets.  Experience using Trimble design software (Tekla Structural Designer and/or Tedds) would be beneficial 
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and alongside colleagues and the external design team to provide engineering solutions 
  • Bachelor's degree BEng / BSc or Master's degree MEng/ MSc that meets the engineering academic requirements for progression to Chartership 
  • Significant progress towards Chartership would be preferential 
  • CSCS card holder
  • Valid UK driving licence
